Decision Support Systems

The program of work between USC’s Earth Sciences and Resources Institute (ESRI-SC) and the NRCS of South Carolina began in 1998 to develop and implement GIS-based Conservation Decision Support Systems (DSS) to promote the sound planning of conservation systems. We have been involved in developing decision support systems for conservation planning (e.g., prescribed grazing, nutrient management) and more recently, we have worked with the NRCS to develop conservation videos to address the “why’s” and “how to’s” of conservation practices. Buz Kloot also teaches ENHS 766 (Applied Aquatic Sciences) where many of the principles in the field are brought to the classroom.
