ESRI-SC RESEARCH CAPABILITIES
ESRI-SC is an extramurally funded institute that works with federal, state, and local government, industry, local business, NGOs, not-for-profit organizations, and private citizens, and has a particularly productive relationship with the private sector. Strengths are in the energy, environmental, and climate (CO2) fields, all priority research areas of USC. A vast majority of this work focuses on acquisition, processing, and interpretation of geophysical data for exploratory purposes (e.g. oil, gas, mineral resources) and environmental hazard assessment (e.g. earthquakes, potential pathways for subsurface toxic contaminants).
ESRI-SC has the ability to organize and manage diverse
research teams composed of industry, governmental
agencies, and university scientists; it has one of the
most complete and advanced facilities for the
acquisition, processing, and interpretation of seismic
reflection data, and is highly regarded for the accuracy
and detail provided by its data processing team,
instrumentation, and computer modeling.
